Is Your Teen Over Connected?

Is Your Teen Over Connected?
The advancement in the modern technology has brought with it many changes, resulting in a change in the nature of every sector. It covers all the sectors like corporate, education, business etc. Therefore, the growing teens cannot be isolated from its advantages and disadvantages. The easy connectivity in the Internet to the whole world has led to enhancement in the methodology of trade and marketing. It can be counted as one of the positive impacts. Similarly, today’s growing teens can spread their knowledge by searching for any questionable topics and find the right answers easily, just by sitting in front of a computer at their own home. Moreover, every coin has its other side; the easy connectivity has also made it easier for its users to embroil in some unsocial activities like sex chats, molestations, humiliation, pornographic exposures etc.

The advantages of today’s social media or network cannot be avoided in the question of its free accessibility to the teens:
  • It helps them to build connectivity with their friends and families. This helps them to develop a feeling of togetherness, where they can share their happiness and sorrows.
  • They have an accessibility to explore the vast information on their preferred subjects, related to their academic career. It also helps them to discuss their opinions with the experts, regarding their right choice of career selection.
  • The parents can always spend their time through calls or IMs with their children during the time of their busy work schedules.
  • The teens can actually test their creativity through social media, as it doesn’t require many guts in comparison to the fear of getting humiliated in the real world.
In spite of the above advantages of the advanced technological connectivity, there are innumerable consequences as well.

Decrease in the number of personal relations, which means that teens are spending less time with their friends in the outer world than they are spending in the phone and Internet.

The growth of humiliation through social media has given rise to various impacts on teens like suicide, mental depression and social isolation.

Loss of valuable time resulting in academic failure. The teenage time is the most fruitful time of one’s life. This is the time when dreams are set and paths are identified to achieve the goal in future. The teens today are spending this valuable time sitting idle in the social media trying on futile efforts.

The risk of sexual exposure of teens. This has been observed many times when a teen has tried a serious sexual prank by posting images or videos of their peers, just to humiliate them. Ultimately, they get trapped in the world of connectivity and this exposure ruins their self esteem and career.

All the above facts prove that the parents should be well concerned about their teens that use the social media through phones and Internet. The parents may be in the mist that their teens are using their home computer or phones just to build a network with their friends for studies and other knowledgeable things. But on their back, their teens might be getting out of the track, which in the later part will become tougher to be rehabilitated.

A close parental eye is necessary for the teens to avoid or cure them in advance from this behavioral change. Cell phone spy is a wonderful solution provided by today’s modern technology to fight back these problems. The software can be quietly downloaded in the targeted phone and its special features allows the parents to spy on all the activities of the cell phone like browsing, call logs, text messages, SMS, MMS, images, videos etc. The best thing about the software is that it cannot be traced at all, letting the downloader to spy the targeted phone most secretly.

The Harmful Effects Of Working More Than 20 Hours A Week In High School

Many teens work part-time during the school year, and the current economic climate, more people can have jobs to help with family finances. However, caution is advised: Among high school students, working over 20 hours a week during the school year can lead to academic and behavioral problems.

That's the finding of a new study by researchers at the University of Washington, the University of Virginia and Temple University. Appears in the January / February issue of Child Development.

In a new analysis of longitudinal data collected in late 1980, researchers examined the effects of getting a job or leaving work among middle-class teenagers in grades 10 and 11. From the total sample of about 1. 800 people, the researchers compared the adolescents who got jobs similar to non-working adolescents and young people who left jobs similar to adolescents who continued working.

Using advances in statistical methods, the researchers combined the teenagers in a long list of background characteristics and personality that are known to influence whether a young person decides to work, using this technique allows a safer estimate of the effects working on adolescent development in the original analysis of the data.

The researchers found that worked for more than 20 hours per week was associated with decreases in school attendance and the extent to which adolescents are expected in school, and increased behavioral problems, such as theft, possession of weapon , and the use of alcohol and illegal drugs. They also found that things did not improve when the teens who worked more than 20 hours a week reduce their hours or stopped working altogether. By contrast, working 20 hours or less a week had negligible effects academic, psychological or behavioral problems.

"Part of working time during the school year has been a fixture of American adolescents over 30 years," said Kathryn C. Monahan, a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Washington, who led the study. "Today, a substantial proportion of U.S. high school students have part-time jobs during the school year, and a large number of them work over 20 hours a week.

"Despite working in high school is unlikely to turn the law-abiding teens into criminals or cause students to fail at school, to the extent of the side effects are not trivial, and even a small decrease in school participation or increased behavior problems may be cause for concern for many parents, "he adds.

The bottom line, Monahan suggests: "Parents, educators and the authorities should monitor and limit the number of hours, whereas adolescents who are enrolled in high school."

Teen Drug Addictions

Teen Drug Addictions
Drug addiction among adolescents can often be difficult to recover. This is one of those moments when being young is more a hindrance than a help. Teenagers are programmed to think they are invincible, right? Bad "could happen to them. They are just the start in life. The idea of having to give anything good is often an alien concept.

In the inner cities where life can be particularly rough teenagers often subscribe to the credo? Live hard and fast for tomorrow we may be dead.? Se? S often difficult for adolescents in these circumstances to see the value of living a life without drugs.

Teen Drug AddictionsWith that being said facilities for outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation of teenagers trying to do just that. Living a life without drugs or alcohol. Remain abstinent from drugs and alcohol is a challenge especially at first. I've included here is a useful strategy in the recovery of drug addiction among teenagers.

In many twelve-step programs are often speaks of recent recovery of people about to end this means hungry, angry, lonely and tired. Keep an eye on any of these crops during the day can go a long way to maintain abstinence. That may be your best ally in the recovery of drug addiction among teenagers.

Hungry
Left hungry or skip meals often leads to falling blood sugar. It also leads to irritation which can often lead to a teenage junkie who wish to pick up their drug of choice for relief. Eat regularly, feed, or even small snacks can help the symptoms or hunger. A protein bar or a package of trail mix are some good choices, since they are not so loaded with sugar. They are also small and easy to throw in a backpack or glove compartment.

Angry-
Being angry and being a teenager often seem to go hand in hand. Adolescence is a difficult time with a lot of changes and stress. Having someone or a group of trusted people to talk to the anger can help keep at bay. The participation and regular exercise, even in team sports can go a long way toward blowing steam and reducing anger. Anger is often argued that arises for the relief may come in the form of drugs. If the above suggestions do not help relieve symptoms of anger ot hesitate to seek professional help.

Lonely-
As mentioned before adolescence is difficult. We have all heard of teens feeling lonely or as if they do not? T setting in. If you are a teenager trying to recover from drug addiction and abstinence, solitude may be exaggerated. At this crucial moment, it is important that the adolescent has a support group of people to pass the time. While it is true that some people will support the adolescent? S family, is equally important to find a group of peers who can relate to. Twelve-step programs and even external programs designed to teach teens recovery life skills may be able to meet this need, providing a group that the adolescent can identify. Isolation in a recovering addict is a red flag that may be in trouble, so do not not take it lightly.

Tired
Teenagers as a whole often keep crazy hours. It is a time of life often feel they have boundless energy and a need to cram too many activities in a few hours. This is often followed by the need of extra sleep when they crash, leading to a general imbalance that can affect your overall mood. Irritability is often present when the teen has been recovering very little sleep. In turn, can precipitate an urge to use to quell the irritability. A balanced sleep schedule can be very valuable to a teenager trying to recover from drug addiction. Although often can not see the need for regular sleep and adequate hours of sleep, you may be able to gently direct your attention, if you see them acting out of self when the department is lacking in sleep.

Excessive sleep can leave the adolescent feeling hungover and slow can be an uncomfortable feeling well. Excessive sleep is also a sign of isolation or depression, as a parent is wise to keep an eye on your teen's recovery? s sleep schedule. The goal is balance.

Recovery from drug addiction among teenagers can be a challenge. Keep an eye out for HALT and not allow anyone who is out of control, can go a long way to help the recovery of a teen club with his will to be clean of drugs and alcohol.

Teenage Sex – Should You Allow It?

We all want our teenagers to be safe and sometimes the argument is made that we know our teenagers are going to do something. So we might as well equip them with the best information as possible and allow them to do whatever the behavior is in a controlled environment. As a parent the topic of teenage sex and whether or not you should allow it is a difficult subject. First and foremost all teenagers should know about sex the risks and have a good basic sexual education but when it comes to allowing teenage sex that is where parent should draw the line.

Informing your teenager about sex is one thing but allowing it is an entirely different subject altogether. You must take a step back and think about how the teenage brain works. In a teenager’s mind life is a balancing act but they have not developed the cognitive reasoning skills and hard-core judgment of right and wrong that adults have. Therefore, they are constantly weighing their decisions before they make looking at both the negative and positive sides of the activity they are about to do.

When it comes to sex there aren’t a whole lot of environmental forces telling them not to do it. Sure they get the scared straight speeches in school but connecting the risk of an STD or unwanted pregnancy to the reward of sex is a lot more difficult than the negative effects of drugs or alcohol. In a teenager’s mind, it’s pretty difficult to find any reason whatsoever not to have sex. Think of yourself as that angel that pops up on their shoulder when they are going through this rationalization process you want them to visualize you being disappointed in them if you knew they were about to have sex.

Again I’m not saying don’t educate your children about sex. And I’m not saying don’t educate your teenager about safe sex. But when it comes to teenage sex and the question of whether or not you will allow it as a parent you need to at least be firm and draw the line even if you know they will go against your rules. If there are no rules for them to break their sexual behavior can get out of control quickly for both you and them. Their partners, can be altered permanently because of this. So educate your teenagers but be firm and draw the line, remember you are their parent first and foremost and you need to be a role model.

Is Your Teen Sleep Deprived? Getting Serious About Sleep

Studies suggest that adolescents often sacrifice their sleep time in making decisions about time management. The problem is that studies also show that sleep need much more likely to get. More and more studies are showing that there is a direct relationship between sleep and academic success.

According to a study by sleep expert Mary Carskadon, PhD, adolescents should receive more than nine hours of sleep each night. That's a great thought, but is it possible? Think about it - do you ever sleep so long?

OK, maybe the weekend. But very few teens get enough sleep on school nights.

Dr. Carskadon's study suggests that biology may be the cause of sleep deprivation among adolescents. Their internal clocks are a little different during adolescence - and the late nights and sleep ins are a natural part of growing into adulthood.

Lack of sleep makes it more difficult for students to concentrate in school, especially during the early morning classes.

Studies on sleep and memory

Our ability to recall is related to our ability to learn, and there have been many studies on sleep and its effects on memory, learning and retention. These studies suggest that sleep habits are essential to good study habits.

A study on the learning of languages shows that it is good to study law before going to sleep because "there is almost consensus that sleep promotes learning of certain types of perceptual memories. "In other words, the students sleep helps store memories to be retained and recalled the next day.

Another study shows that sleep strengthens the memory to be clear and resistant to interference and distractions.

A 1999 study suggests that information becomes "concrete" in our brain while we sleep.
These studies show that sleep is important, but also suggest that there may be more useful to study right before bedtime.

Avoid sleep deprivation

What can you do if you know you are not getting enough sleep?

Turn off the TV at night. Some teens fall asleep with the TV on, and some are so used to the noise they think I can not sleep without it. Not true! TV noises and flashing lights will only continue to get a deep sleep. If you can remember everything you hear in your dream, is a sure sign that you're not sleeping well.

Try switching to decaffeinated beverages. caffeine by switching to something healthier, and reduce bottled water. If that's too much to ask, at least try a caffeine free version of your favorite beverage!

Limit extracurricular activities. It is hard to do, but try to limit their extracurricular activities. Decide once and for all if good performance and potential of the university is important, and then set priorities. Sometimes you have to make a tough decision and stick to it.

Too does not seem right before bedtime. If you have the task of calculation, you may not want to leave for the night. It's harder to relax and sleep when your mind is stuck so deep in thought. It takes a while to relax, so perhaps I should deal with more subjects before.

Ditto for video games crazy. Video games can also cause your brain to enter the zone of saturation. If you play video games, they do before going to bed.

Turn off your cell phone. What is so important that it can wait until tomorrow? Unless you have a good reason (as an employed parent has to go) to go out and get some rest.

Keep track of time. Often, students have great intentions, but other things seem to keep them up late, again and again. That's because teenagers need to develop an understanding of time management and complete the task. It is difficult to put a timetable on things like running an errand or do a scientific experiment.

Start tracking the things you do normally and the amount of time required to perform certain tasks. Then, plan ahead so you can get to bed on time.

Listening to music, if desired, but not too strong. Many people play music at night. If you do not mind, go ahead. Do not play too hard, though, or will interfere with your sleep.

Do you really need to work after school? This could be a very difficult decision, too. Some students need to work to pay car insurance or save for college. You just have to decide on their own, which is necessary and what not.

Thyroid Disease

The thyroid is a small gland located under the skin and muscles in the front of the neck, right where a bow tie to rest. It is red brown with left and right halves (called lobes) that look like the wings of a butterfly. It's light like a butterfly, too, and usually weighs less than an ounce.

As small as it is, however, the thyroid has an enormously important job to do, especially for adolescents. That makes hormones that help control metabolism and growth. To do its job, the thyroid needs a chemical element called iodine that the body absorbs from the food we eat and water you drink. The body contains about 50 milligrams of iodine. About 1 / 5 to 1 / 3 of the tender (10 to 15 milligrams) is stored in the thyroid. The thyroid iodine combines with tyrosine (an essential amino acid) to produce important hormones.

Thyroid hormones are released from the gland and travels through the bloodstream to the cells in your body. Help control the growth and structure of bones, sexual development (puberty), and many other body functions. By helping your cells convert oxygen and calories into the energy they need to function properly, these hormones are important in determining if your body is mature as it should. Thyroid hormones also directly affect how most of your organs function. So if your thyroid is not functioning properly, can have problems in many other parts of your body.
