Recovering from any surgery can be a long and tedious process. For my clients who have recently had liposuction, facelifts, brazilian butt lifts, tummy tucks and various breast surgeries the pain and swelling and scar tissue sensitivity can last weeks and months post surgery.
A major part of my healing practice is offering lymphatic drainage services to clients within days of their surgeries. My training and certification is as a lymphatic drainage therapist. In every day terms, lymphatic drainage helps to assist in the healing process of the body post surgery. The lymphatic system is our body's fluid transport system. It's what is draining from ports and open wounds post surgery.
The lymph, a milky liquid, is produced and circulated by the body to detoxify every cell. This fluid often builds up after a surgery. The volume of lymph produced post surgery varies based on the level of trauma upon the body and the lymphatic system. In surgeries like liposuction, tummy tucks, breast lifts, etc... their effect is often invasive, traumatic damage to soft tissue. As a result, fluid build up and the patients experience fluid retention, swelling and ridging and pockets of fluid around incision sites.
Lymphatic Drainage is an essential item on the road to recovery from any type of surgery; be it cosmetic or medically necessary. It is imperative to get lymphatic drainage immediately post surgery to help alleviate the swelling and enhance the drainage of fluid that can pose post surgery challenges.
If you are interested in an assessment to see if a lymphatic treatment could help you, please call our office to set up an appointment with Lymphatic Therapist, Melissa Gallagher or email her directly.

What happens during a Lymphatic Treatment?
This is one of the most relaxing hours of treatment you will spend. Once you undress, you are lying comfortably on a massage table, covered with a soft sheet and blanket. The Lymphatic therapist will begin using a Lymphatic Wand (which is attached to the Lymph Machine), to gently scan over every part of the body, with a particular emphasis on areas with high Lymphatic concentration...neck, breasts and underarms, abdomen, groin area, legs, etc. The Wand puts out a current of light energy that penetrates through the skin to begin to break up congestion and stagnation in the Lymphatic system.
What will I feel?
You may feel slight sensations of energy in your body during the treatment, but otherwise you will mostly feel very relaxed. The session itself takes approximately one hour. We recommend following this treatment with an Ionic Footbath.
How to Prepare for a Lymphatic Treatment:
Preparation is easy. We ask that clients avoid wearing any jewelry, perfume, make-up, oils, deodorants, cologne or anything unnatural that could be put on the body. You can eat lightly before a session but it's best to come in with as empty a stomach as possible.
If you are interested in an assessment to see if a lymphatic treatment could help you, please call our office to set up an appointment with Lymphatic Therapist, Melissa Gallagher or email her directly.
